Costa Rica - best area

I know that there are a variety of areas to stay in Costa Rica. My wife and I are looking for a beach front area. Someone suggested th Caribbean side, but we are not sure where on that side, or if the Pacific side is better. Please advise.
Thanks

North Pacific, Tamarindo area is most developed for tourists. South pacific is best for Natural environment and awesome beaches. Carribean is more laid-back less developed and also has great beaches. Best weather is on the pacific side. Best Idea is figure out who you are and what level of pampering you need from the hotel industry. If you are low maintenance, Carribean is ideal. If you need your butt-wiped for you, Tamarindo, or another country all together! hope this helps. We are Canadian, Know little Spanish, but find a smile and courtesy gets you so much more in C.R. than a bitchy attitude and awallet full of cash.

I live in Costa Rica and frequent both sides of the coasts. They are so different, but there is something about he Caribbean side, specifically Punta Uva, that I just love. Really nice snorkeling and lots of wildlife. I've never been disappointed there. I stay at a hotel called Las Palmas, and although around $100 a night, it is on the beach with air conditioning, safe in room, etc.
I have a picture of a sloth crossing the road right near that hotel at my blog: www.happierthanabillionaire.com

Hotel Punta Islita is a great spot. I think it is the nicest hotel in Costa Rica.
