Costa Rica accomodation suggestions for Christmas week

We are a family of 5-6 that would like to spend Christmas in Costa Rica. We want to be within a reasonable distance to the beach for scuba and boogie boarding/surfing. We may want to rent a house or maybe resort if not to expensive. Any suggestions?

How important is scuba to you? For the most part, Costa Rica does not have good water visibility. Our favorite beach area is Manuel Antonio but there will most likely be a lot of sediment in the water. Tulemar Bungalows is a great place to stay - Upper Mot Mot or Casa Panorama are really nice. For most places, prices will skyrocket for the week of Christmas.

Casa Maravilla Estate is a beautiful rental property in Manuel Antonio especially for a family your size. Panoramic view of the coast and close to Manuel Antonio beach and Playa Biesanz- a nice little scuba and snorkeling spot. I hope this helps! http://www.crvacationproperties.com/category/blog/

emily, have you gone scuba or snorkeling there? If so, how was it when you went? It was pretty bad for us with really poor visibility.

Agree with Volcano Girl, snorkeling or scuba is not going to be very good. I would take the time to head out to Cano Island. There are some tour companies that work out of Dominical about 45 minutes south of MA that do this. Cano Island has the best snorkeling and scuba on the Pacific coast and it is worth the extra time and expense. You might also see some whales as you head out to the island.

Hello, it seems to me that it is way more convenient to stay in Papagayo Area, Guanacaste. It is way more convenient in terms of flight, hotels, private villas. For instance, beautiful hotels like Four Seasons n Hyatt are only 40 minutes away from Liberia airport, also, there are a lot of choices for tours, most of them only 1 45 minutes away from any beach hotel or villa. If you are looking for top notch private tours, www.guanacastejourneys.com is a great option.
