I'm trying to find info on this resort also. We are thinking of going the end of October when we usually go to Mexico & have had good weather in Zihuatenjo & Manzanillo. Not really into the full adventure scenerio but it also looks like a good place to veg out & aviod the crowds. Let me know if you get any info!
I've been there several times and do bookings for them. A nice quiet location north of PV 25 minutes in the village of San Pancho. Check it out on my web site at: www.outlandadventures.natureavenue.com and if Real Mexico interests you check out our Adventure Outpost at: www.choice1.com/villamontana.htm

adios!

mexicodan@ho tmail.com (email me if you want)

The costa Azul resort in San Francisco, Nayarit (also called San Pancho) is about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. It is a pretty average hotel, with one medium sized pool and a not so good restaurant. The sunsets there are wonderful but the surfing is not. You will have to go to the nearby town of Sayulita for the best surfing. It's too rough in San Pancho- not good surf.
Sayulita is really a better place to stay than San Pancho. There is way more choices in places to stay and restaurants and it has a town square and a lively beach area where people hang out. San Pancho has only really two good restaurants and no nightlife whatsoever. There is no town square and the cantinas on the beach are pretty run down and horrible.

Thanks, I've been looking into Villa Amor in Sayulita. Any comment? Not into surfing, just looking for a laid back place in the sun, private, on/above the beach with some good restaurants & snorkeling or kayaking. Nightlife not important. How long does it take it drive to PV? Easy route from the airport? Thanks for any info!

Try the quaint fishing village of La Manzanilla, mexico on the pristine Bay of Tenacatita just north of the Manzanillo airport. www.lamanzanillamexico.bizland.com/lamrentals

Hi Peggy,
I saw from your post that you are interested in info on Sayulita. I've
been going to Sayulita for over 30 years now. My parents live there 6 months
out of the year and my husband and I also have a home there. I'm familiar
with Villa Amor and also some of the private homes for rent in Sayulita.
You might want to check out www.vrbo.com and find the listings for
Sayulita. VRBO stands for "vacation rentals by owner" and there are some
nice places for rent listed there. Villa Amor is very popular and a lot of people stay there for their first
trip to Sayulita. It is not too far from the center of town, but it does not have a beach and is also quite pricey. Villa Amor is also right next to where the fishermen clean their fish and the smell of the rotten fish is pretty bad.
You wanted to know how far Sayulita is from the P.V. airport. You can take
a taxi from the airport to Sayulita for about $35 US. It takes about 30-40
minutes. There is also great bus service to and from P.V. - You could easily take a bus back to the airport from Sayulita or go in for a day trip.
Hope this helps.
Thank you so much for the info! That is what I was looking for, some first hand knowledge on the place can make a big difference. I will check out vrbo.com & if you don't mind may e-mail you personally if I have some more questions. I appreciate the help. We are leaving for the Cook Islands Saturday & I am trying to decide where we want to go in October & Sayulita has been looking interesting. What is the town & beach area like? Mostly surfing or party crowd? We'd love a place (for 2 people), private, on/near the beach with a plunge pool/patio/BBQ area & good views. We are not trying to go cheap but comfortable. If you have any ideas, let me know! Thank you again.

Peggy,
Sayulita is a beautiful fishing village, surrounded by jungle and hillsides. The beach is wonderful there and it has great spots for surfing, swimming and snorkeling. You can rent kayaks and travel to some secluded nearby beaches too.
The town itself is very sweet. A real mexican village. There is no bank, no post office, no big hotels, no McDonalds. There are nice mom & pop grocery stores, a few good giftshops and a number of great restaurants- some of them owned by americans wanting to get away from it all. Everything in Sayulita is within walking distance.
Please email me and I would be happy to recommend some places to stay on the beach.
-Kimberly

I've been going to Mexico for years with my family and we have recently switched from Sayulita to San Pancho. Sayulita is so built up and touristy now. Crowded streets and actually kind of dirty. We took a day trip up to San Pancho (10 minutes north) and discovered a new gem. San Pancho is so much more quaint and charming. It is was Sayulita was 10 years ago when we discovered it. We found Costa Azul and really liked our experience there. They have an amazing staff and the best location on the beach. The rooms are not 5 star but are clean and have insane ocean views. They also run trips right from the hotel that enabled us to discover other places in the area. We did the European plan so we could try out other places to eat in town. Turns out San Pancho does have better food then Sayulita. We ran into a couple that live in Sayulita that said the restaurants are better in San Pancho so they drive over to have dinner in San Pancho. They told us they liked San Pancho better too and were thinking of moving. San Pancho is our new favorite spot. Email me if you have questions about Costa Azul or San Pancho.....
