Colonia to Carmelo

Colonia to Carmelo
I just got word from the Four Seasons at Carmelo that it will be $40 USD per person to transfer my husband and I and each of our children to the resort at Carmelo. It couldn't possibly be $160 USD for a cab ride?? Has anyone taken this trip? Can we take a cab for a more reasonable fare. We thought of walking around Colonia for a while before going on to the resort but would be a bit put off by the luggage. Any thoughts?
Also, has anyone eaten at the Carmelo resort. Good Food? Are their in town options?

Hi, I took the drive paying the 4 Seasons but I believed it was may be $40 for both of us...are you positive that the charge would be PER PERSONS?....sounds a lot...
Anyway of course you can negociate with a taxi in Colonia to go to Carmelo

The >POrt is very near to downtown tiny Colonia you can come back for the luggage with the taxi when ready to leave for Carmelo.

PS May be the taxi Colinia-Carmelo would be even less, who knows, so star negociating with an open mind. Be firm and you will get a good price.

Thank you for the kind help. We have chosen Carmelo and are just now trying to figure out the logistics of getting there. Four Seasons wants a fortune $$ for the ride from the ferry to the resort.

I realise that my reply made no sense...I was looking at your other helpful posting re: Carmelo vs Punta Del Este.
I was a little shocked when I was told $40 each (including the children). I will double check and see about a taxi. Public bus is not sensible but a cab might work out...especially if we arrive and take that time to see Colonia.

Hi Kelieann , I am presently in Montevideo , although my home is in the US, when are you traveling.? I shall try to get the telephone number of a Remise service in Colonia, and ask them how much they would charge to drive you and your family from the ferry to Carmelo. They might even be there to pick you up. It is good business for them, believe me. I see what I can do.
You can call them from Bs As and make the arrangements before leaving for Colonia.
I have to tell you that the 4 Seasons in Bs As and in Carmelo are owned by the same person , I believe he is from Argentina, AND SOME TIMES they offer like a package for both hotels.
Also most restaurants and small quaint hotels in Colonia are owned by Argentines.I shall post again the telephone number of the remise service

Knowing the rate between Colonia and the 4 Seasons and would not make a reservation but approach them the same day.
( I believe that they surely are reputable taxi groups or companies but since I am not familiar with them I woudl rather make the deal on the spot,

Hi Kellieann, you are very welcome. My pleasure. I agree with you one hundred per cent, as far as I recall, the breakfast was a la carte. No big breakfast buffet, at least at the time we stayed there.
They are nice in many aspects, like offering welcoming cold tea in Summer, all kind of free breebes around the pool area, and lots of mineral water in the van ride from COlonia and much more.
But I agree it is ridicule to pay for children for the ride, the taxi seems a great solution. What I tried to convey to you is that if the taxi driver sees you in a must must situation to be transported to the hotel they might ask for more money. But if you call them ahead they will have to be more truthful and then you will know which is a fair rate.This of course is my feeling and I might be totally wrong.
One big question how is your Spanish?
I guess a little will do. Bargain a little.
We were there a couple of years ago, and things might have changed, I only recall one restaurant, no coffee shop in the hotel. On Sundays they have like a big ASADO or bar b q.
May be prices are a little under the International prices of a simmilar resort elsewhere but they are above the
prices in Uruguay.
