hiya, yes I drink it every time I go to Peru etc. It tastes fine, is available everywhere, most hotel have it in reception for you to drink as much as you please. It helps. It's not a total cure or prevention but is good. Can be boght also in sweets form, syrup ( my personal favourite) and also in homeopathy to take bfore and during the trip. Unfortuantely not available here in Brasil but is in US and UK. You'll only know whether you'll suffer or not once you're at altitude, makes no difference if you're young, old, fat, this, fit or not. I even bring some tea back to Brasil with me to drink here as is good for various other things. Have fun !

hiya, what I meant was is the HOMEOPATHY is available in Uk and US, not the coca tea. It's not available anywhere except Peru and Bolivia and perhaps Ecuador I believe. The homeopathy is not to be found in Bolivia and Peru, at least not over counter. The syrup, sweets etc are not available elsewhere either. If you arive in Lima I suggest starting to drink it before you go to high altitudes.

Hello. Coca tea will help for sure. I drank 3 or 4 cups before heading up to El Tatio (4350 m) and I was fine. Another way to avert altitude sickness is not to rush about. Give yourself more time to do things, and walk slowly until you get acclimatized. Slowing down is the best thing you can do to help your body adjust.
