Hi, just a quick report on our Belize vacation. Wife and I did one of the all inclusive Los Dos Cayos packages offered by Chaa Creek followed by Victoria House on Ambergris Caye. Both resorts were excellent. The grounds at Chaa Creek were "exceptionally pretty" and the food and restaurant bar setup exceeded our expectations.. dining far nicer than Bosque del Cabo. We asked for a cabin away from children and they put us in Cabin 11 which had many large iguanas crawling around and howlers in the trees in front of our deck. Perfect for us. But it was near 90 in the afternoon and we wished there was an air conditioner. Would not go again in the warmer months. We took several tours which were all very good. Very Nice swimming pool. Staff was genuinely friendly and helpful. Less wildlife than Costa Rica but more exotic birds than we have ever seen. Enjoyed the Mayan ruins. Order the limeaid frozen.
Victoria House near San Pedro also exceeded our expectations. Very pretty grounds and beach. We were in Casita Number One which we do not recommend as there is a large dining room heat pump a few feet outside which made it noisy. Ask for 2 thru 6 or the Rainforest Suite. We did have our own air conditioner which was much appreciated. Nice snorkeling tour on the reef and swam with the sharks. Food quality was excellent but I found the main dining room to be spooky like a morgue. My wife said that was just me. We took our meals outside on the patio or in the bar. Service was excellent overall.
Unfortunately, much of Belize that we saw was a dump. Lots of poverty. Belize City and San Pedro very seedy. Bad roads everywhere. Go for Chaa Creek and the rainforest and just my opinion, if you are looking for a pretty beach resort, you could do much better in the Caribbean. ....Ross

Thanks for the report. We loved both those places too. I didn't pick up on that morgue thing at all - lol. That cracks me up. I was really impressed by the service at Chaa Creek; they knew us by name, and when my husband lost his sunglasses on a long hike, they brought them to us the next day - lots of nice little touches. It was pretty hot when we went too; I kept putting that huge fan right by the bed to cool off - very grateful for that wonderful pool. And VH was beautiful. I was so happy to have the AC there! If you go back, the plantation rooms are nice. We loved having the private balcony. I really enjoyed San Pedro, but agree about Belize City.
