cenotes/yucatan peninsula

hi, returning to the yucatan after a 25 odd year hiatus. when last there we went into a cenote. i suspect it was near coba where we spent a few nights or possibly chichen itza ( long ago enough ago that we climbed into el castillo ( i think that's the name of the large pyramide?)

as we were going in some french folk were coming out and i learned a phrase i still laugh at "mettez vous in profile".

so w/ a week split between a night at valladolid, 3 nights at tulum and 2 nights at laguna bacalar which cenotes might folks recommend. the one we visited years go was relatively un developed or commercialized.

while i realize the visitor load on the yucatan peninsula has dramatically increased can you point us toward a relatively low key cenote you enjoy

we will have a car. thanks

cheers

Two of my favorites are right outside of Valladolid in Dzitnup, and they are separated by just a short walk -- Cenote Xkeken and Cenote Samula.

Gran Cenote and Cenote Dos Ojos are right in Tulum. Both are pretty amazing but also well known (there are videos of both on YouTube). Several more cenotes line the road back up to Playa del Carmen. If you are renting a car you can just pull in and check them out. Jardin del Eden and Cenote Azul are two of the cenotes but there are four or five. My family of five loved the cenotes. Beautiful and fun.

There are 3 or 4 near Puerto Aventuras, right across the highway from the Barcelo resort, the Jardin del Eden, Cristalino, Kantun Chi (higher priced than the others) and Azul so easy to get to.
Grand Cenote is on the Coba road so not in Tulum proper but a short drive, also in that area is Carwash Cenote.
I like Manatee Cenote in Tankah Tres (car or taxi needed) go there and then eat before or after at Casa Cenote across the road, on Sunday the owner Gary puts on a Texas style BBQ.

our nearby Costco has nothing of interest in the parking lot and our executive cost C$100. the mexican is the equivalent of C$68 and all we have are cart corrals! not fair, eh.

cheers
