caye caulker

My husband and I will be staying on Caye Caulker for 12 days next month. We plan on kicking back, snorkeling and doing a trip to the Mayan ruins. Is Ambergris Caye a good day trip? We'll be staying at Seaside Cabanas, if anyone has any feedback on S.C. or day trip suggestions, it would be welcomed!

No reason not to make a day trip to Ambergris. Water taxis are regular. We took a day trip to Lamanai last Feb and enjoyed that.

Stories and pictures from our CC trips are on our web site if you're interested. Click on my name to see my profile. The link is there.

Ambergis Caye is a worthwhile day trip. Go to Elvi's kitchen for lunch. Great seviche (best I've ever had) and tortilla chips. While the rest of the food is good, you can ignore it and go straight for the seviche.

Great snorkeling day trips... any of the Shark Ray Alley/Hol Chan trips are an excellent choice.

Ambergris Caye is very close and has about the only nightlife you will find. Keep in mind, nightlife is the "chicken drop" and maybe a couple of bars/restaurants with a few people in the party mood. You can walk from one end of Caye Caulker to the other in a matter of minutes. Very laid back, kind of a hippy paradise. Plan some day trips or you will get bored with 12 days on your hands. The water taxi will become your friend real quick. Very beautiful area, but I think you'll find yourself in San Pedro every few days.
