Canopy Tour, 50 something. Can we do it? (And other questions about tours)

I would like to do one of the canopy tours while we are in Granada. I'm a little hesitant though as I'm not sure if they require a lot of strength or coordination? I'm a woman, 54, pretty physically fit (I've run several marathons), but I don't have a lot of upper body strength and I'm no very coordinated. I don't want to get out in the middle and find I'm not able to do it.

I haven't read anywhere that it is particularly strenuous, but what do you think? Anyone that has done it, can you give me some confidence here to try it?

Also, I've been looking at offerings from Oro Travel. I would really like to go up to Mombacho and maybe even the Puma Trail, but I would like to also have a dip in the lake when we're finished. It doesn't appear they offer that. Has anyone done that in one day? We won't have a car, so can't drive there outselves.

I guess I can write Oro and see if they will customize a trip for us, but I thought maybe someone else had done that and could advise.

Thanks for your help

Cindy

Zip lines are easy. They put you in climbing gear and it is like sitting down in a swing, only you can't fall out. The gear total supports your rear end as a swing would and all they have you do is sit. It looks like people are hanging by your mid-section, but that isn't really the case at all. You are just sitting there. If you can put both hands on the cable and lift yourself up a few inches so they can attach you to the cable, you are all set. It is not difficult at all and they have attached people thousands of times so they have you hooked on in a matter of seconds.

You use your hand to break (slow down) but it is very simple. They go through the instructions very carefully and give you tips at each platform. I'm a big chicken and I had a blast. I was nervous at first but then I didn't want it to end.

I would write to Oro directly and have them customize something for you, they seemed to easily adapt to certain requests.

The ziplines as mentioned require very little on your part, you mostly just enjoy the ride. If you do Momacho zipline, it would make sense to do it the same day you do the hike at Mombacho as it is about halfway up the road and the road is quite steep and it's slow going. Have fun!

Thanks for your replies. I'm feeling a lot better about doing it. I'm sure it will be a blast! I think I'll try to do the Mombacho combo with the zipline.

I have e-mailed Rodolfo with a few questions and he has responded quickly. I'm very happy so far with Oro Travel.

Good, good, I actually e-mailed Rodolfo today to just say thanks and tell him I would recommend his agency when I could. It was great when I arrived to have a folder full of maps & brochures plus all my tours I would take with them, who the driver and/or guide would be, the pick-up and end time, plus more details in what we would be doing etc al laid out.

I was petrified my first zipline, but honestly by the 2nd or 3rd line I was elbowing people to go first

CRose,
If you have run a few marathons I would say you are more then qualified to do a canopy tour. My friends were not all in tip top shape but they all managed to hike the Puma trail and still have enough energy to enjoy the zipline. The guys will do all of the work for you and even ride with you if you are a bit nervous.
