I am planning a family trip with my 11 yr old son and 7 yr old daughter in mid Aug to Cancun. We like do SAFE water activites including sailing, snorkleing and swimming in the ocean. Which hotel has the better beaches and access to snorkling ? I am a little worried about staying at the Ritz since I am not sure how child-friendl they are as well as how much meals will cost me at the Ritz ? How much should I budget for breakfast, lunch and dinner assuming that I will be eating most of my meals at the hotel itself ? If you can give me specific examples of food prices (like a breakfast buffet), it would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Of the two, I would recommend FAGCB. The waves where the Ritz is located may be too strong for a 7-year old. The food at the Ritz is very good but expensive and there aren't really any places nearby. I don't know what meals cost at FAGCB but there a lot of places across the street where you could pop over to for relatively inexpensive breakfasts or lunches. I also think your kids would find the Ritz stuffy and FAGCB more fun.
The beach is extremely safe at FA - almost too safe. They can snorkel right on the beach, but won't likely see much. For $25 each, Pablo at the Marina will take you a mile out to one of the local reefs for one hour. Totaly safe if the ocean is fairly calm, since they can wear life vests. We went last Saturday and it was awesome. They will the four pools awesome also.
