Cancun car rental

We are a party of 6 traveling to Cancun for 12 nights in Feb 2003, staying at Km 8.3 in hotel zone (Fiesta Americana Cancun). We would like to have a car that seats 6 for the 2 weekends - Fri-Mon/Tues if possible.
My questions:
Is my research info correct that the tourist attractions (snorkel parks, ruins, islands Cozumel & Mujeres and Playa del Carmen) are less likely to be crowded with cruise ship people on weekends F-Mon?

Is the weekly rental rate usually cheaper than the added up daily weekend rate?
Which car rental co's even have cars big enough for 6?
Does anyone know what National means by a "full size wagon"?
If I wait until we're there might I end up empty handed?
Can anyone recommend company that is expert in this type of request?
Has anyone let AAA book their car here?
