cancun and cozumel

We would like to spend time in cancun and cozumel after easter. Has anyone done this? Does anyone know how much a flight from one island to the other is? What about a resort chain that you can split your time between islands. Any ideas?

You can't easily island hop between the two, so plan on spending three days on one and four days on the other. If you're flying in and out of Cancun, I'd make Cozumel the first leg of the trip so that you're back in Cancun when it's time to fly home.

A year or so ago, it was about $70 one way to fly between the two if you bought a round-trip ticket. More if one way only. A few months ago, they started a very convenient and inexpensive bus service from the Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen (about $7 per person one way, 45 minutes). From Playa you catch the ferry over to Coz (about $8 per person and 45 minutes).

Allegro and Iberostar are two Cozumel resorts that have agreements with their mainlaind counterparts, but I believe those are only in the Playa area, not Cancun (Palace resorts are big in Cancun and Playa, not Cozumel).

As Shell says the Iberostar offers one week at their IB Paraiso which is about 15 minutes to 1/2 hour south of the Cancun airport on the Mayan Riveria side and one week over in Cozumel at the IB there.
We are doing this trip at the end of January and have been to both these areas before but at different resorts. For the transfer over the Cozumel Iberostar it's by ferry (about 45 min ride from PDC) or you could fly over for $50 or something like that. We choose to just go over on the ferry as we do not relish the idea of wasting a good part of the day going through the 2 airports and all that rigamarole. The ferries run every hour from PDC to Coz so even if you get to the other resort and your room is not ready at least you can hang out...much better than waiting for the plane, embarking, the flight over, debarking, etc, etc, etc...

We stayed at the Allegro Resort on Cozumel. You can stay at the one in Playa Del Carmen and vistit the one in Cozemel or the other way around. You can pick up the ferry in Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel. I think the ferry is about $10.00. I would strongly recomend the Allegro Resort in Cozumel.
