The Ritz in Cancun is a wonderful property which is very safe. Perico's restaurant is a fun atmosphere, and the food is OK. Italina restaurant across from Ritz on lagoon side is very good. Senor Frogs a fun place for late night parties. Have a great time.

We enjoyed our day trip to Chichen Itza. Fascinating place. If you plan to go, do yourself a favor and read up on it first.
Mercado 28 in Cancun was fun too. They have lots of tourist trinkets but the locals shop there as well.

It sounds bizarre but our trip thru the local WalMart was very interesting. To see something that familiar in a totally different world was somehow fascinating.

Hello

A bit off the original topic, but to follow up on the last post, I love going into supermarkets, discount stores, etc. in foreign countries. I got a great deal - 3 t-shirts for $5 (US) in a discount store just outside the town of Cozumel last year.

Howard

Jennifer,
A definite must-see are the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza. Climb the Temple of the Sun..it`s worth it for the magnificent view you get once up there. Another must in my opinion is Xcaret; ecological park abour 1 hours south of Cancun. You can swim in these underground rivers (there are 2 rivers, one is more outdoor, the other one is mostly covered). This is an absolutely neat experience. If you go, you must stay for the show at night (Xcaret de noche). It`s one of the best shows I`ve ever seen! You get to see the traditional mayan game, played 1000 years ago (the hoop) and then, you are devided in smaller group and guided through the park, lit by candles for some more traditional mayan celebration and finished with the mexican show with folklore from different regions. Very good show. It doesn`t cost more money to stay and it`s well worth it. Enjoy your trip!

The ruins at Coba are interesting because they are more undeveloped. So if you want to walk through jungle trails looking at what they look like before excavation, then try here. There are alot less people trying to sell you something.

Tulum is a must see, and I would have loved to stay overnight there, but was booked for 5 days in Cancun already.
