Can you get to Cano Island from Puerto Jimenez for a day trip?

My daughter is dying to go to Cano Island to go snorkeling because they are supposed to have seahorses which she has never seen in the wild. From looking into it, I think most people get there from Drake's Bay and not Puerto Jimenez. Can we get a boat trip or whatever from Puerto Jimenez to there?

I've never heard of anyone doing that, probably too long of a ride and probably very high cost. You can email Paul at Sol de Osa and see if he can get a quote, but just expect it to be very high.

You can get a cab from PJ to DB and then take a boat tour from there. Very long day, up very early and home late, but it can be done.

I agree, Cano Island offers the chance to see seahorses, although the chances of sightings are improved if diving rather than snorkelling. Tours to Cano Island run from several areas, all on the Pacific coast, including Drake Bay, Dominical / Uvita and from some Corcovado lodges. I'm not aware of anyone offering boat trips directly from Puerto Jimenez, the easiest thing to do is probably to drive (around an hour) over to Drake Bay and go from there.

Cheers

Dave

Hmmm, I did not drive from PJ to DB (yet) but from reading others posts I am pretty convinced that it is more like 2 hours travel (each way). Having a sturdy 4x4 is obligatory.

It's about 3 hours from Cabo Matapalo, so 2 hours from PJ seems about right. Cab ride would run around $150 each way.

Have you booked your final plans yet?

We're definitely going to be in Puerto Jimenez. I think I will just save this for next time, it sounds like too much travel for one day.

I agree with too much travel time. And, granted I've only been to Cano Island once, I don't think it's that exciting snorkeling wise and probably wouldn't choose to do it unless already in Drake Bay.
