Cabo San Lucas for the day

We are arrive cruise ship May 5 and want to see some of the sites... I dont really like using the cruise ship bookings. Can anyone suggest a company that has cars for hire?
Is taking a taxi safe in Cabo? Are there local buses? And any suggestions of what we should do for a day trip? We get in around 8 am and leave around 5 pm. We are also going to Acapulco We arrive there on May 3

Yes it is safe taking a taxi in Cabo. There are a few local busses but they really aren't practical for cruiseship passengers to use (they are more collectivo style vans for the local workers to get around).

You could simply spend the day in Cabo on your own. It wouldn't be difficult. Just get of the ship and head into the downtown area. You'll find local shops and restaurants, the Marina, the Paraiso Mall. Then you can go to Medano Beach which is lined with beach bars & restaurants where for the price of drinks/snacks you can have use of loungers, chairs, umbrellas, tables, rest rooms. You could go by taxi or this could be done on foot.

You could do a snorkel trip to Santa Maria Bay. We used Pez Gato and had alot of fun!! You could also hang out around town, visit a beach bar on Medano Beach. Take a water taxi out to the Arch.

Taxi are safe, but expensive. Buses go up and down the corridor and are cheap.

You could do a deluxe city tour of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It includes a water taxi ride out to the famous "Arch", trip to a glass blowing factory, time for shopping, lunch at a traditional Mexican restuarant and a few other stops. You can contact www.caboplanner.com to book the tour.

Keep in mind how long it will take you to get on/return to ship. May limit trips to Santa Maria or the corridor.

Hi I am taking my college age boys to Cabo in the end of June. Can we do a day trip to the mountains to hike? Do we rent a car from Cabo or do they have tourist buses? what beaches do you recommend? My youngest son is a big history buff-best places to visit?? Thanks

rams~not sure about the hiking, but for beaches~if you want to swim, you'll need to stay on the Sea of Cortez side at Medano Beach, or Santa Maria Bay. The undertow is ferocious on the Pacific side.

There is hiking in the mountains. You can go on your own, but directions may not be well posted and you need to be prepared for the heat. Our teen daughter and a friend spent a day hiking, zip lining and rappelling with Cabo Adventures:

San Jose del Cabo would offer the most history. There are also smaller, outlying towns with ranching history.
