There's a site www.allaboutcabo.com that has most of the information you'll need for your trip. I'm heading down there this weekend for the first time and I found lots of helpful information.

I have responded to this question several times, and have seen the responses from other. Do a search on Cabo or Los Cabos. I can say where I WOULDN'T stay again, and that is the Melia San Lucas, which, in spite of its excellent location, stunning views and gorgeous grounds, has mediocre-to-bad rooms and not very good service. I think that the hotels in Cabo are less satisfactory than in other areas of Mexico, and are generally more expensive. I liked the area after one visit, but it wouldn't be the quality of the hotels that would argue for a second visit.

In general I would recommend staying at close-to-town properties such as the Hacienda Beach, Solmar Suites, Pueblo Bonito, etc. After that it would be determined by your budget.

We have stayed twice at the Villa Del Palmar. It is only about 3/4 mile from town so walkable if you want, yet it is at the end of the strip of close to town hotels so less conjested. It is a new resort condo complex. The 2 BR have 3 baths, the 3 BR units are wonderful. We had unit 1001 and we were at the water's edge with private patio and hot tub. We never had to come out to "reserve" deck chairs as I saw some people doing early in the morning. I would always hope to go there with our large group of 8 so we could justify staying in the 3 BR units. Another good place is the Westin. Have never been there but have heard good things about it. It is out a ways from town so not as convenient. Cab fare in Cabo is not cheap as in other parts of Mexico. Another place we visited was El Presidente Continental. Its an all inclusive in San Jose, about 25 miles from Cabo San Lucas. It appeared very nice. The town of San Jose also appeared very nice. Much quieter than San Lucas. If a swimmable beach is important to you, you must check into that before booking. There are some places where it drops off and there are strong undertow. Villa Del Palmar has a safe beach, and view of the arches. Have a great time, do the ATV tour to the lighthouse. Cabo is GREAT!!

I just got back from my 2nd trip to Cabo. The first time we stayed at Fiesta Inn in San Jose .. not the Ritz but a nice place but about 30 min to Cabo. This time we stayed at Plaza Las Glorias. Rooms are just -ok- but the location has to be the BEST for being in downtown Cabo. And the back side of the hotel is on the marina.. beautiful view from the room. I will definitely stay there next time !

Hi Jerod,
We stayed at Finisterra Hotel from 4/27/99 to 5/3/99. Our first room overlooked the Marina. It was very clean but the bathroom was small.
We switched rooms on 4/30 because the new guest who checked in above us was obnoxious.
They moved us in to the main part of the hotel. This room was also clean and the bathroom was more modern and much larger. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. The grounds were beautiful, the staff efficient and friendly. We were in walking distance of many good restaurants. The hotel is right on the beach, but it is on the Pacific side so swimming is not recommended in the ocean. But the pool here was lovely, so we walked the beach and swam at the hotel.
I hope this information helps. Have a great time.

Great thing about the Los Cabos area-they're is a great range of properties from small inexpensive beachfront hotels like the Fiesta listed above to the huge mega resorts like the Westin-Regina. The choice is yours. Personally I like the quiet uncrowded atmosphere of San Jose del Cabo over the hustle bustle of Cabo San Lucas, and the Fiesta and its neighbor the Posada Real are both very comfortable (have stayed at Posada, am going to stay at the Fiesta this Oct.) where you can get a room for $65-$100 US. At the upper end of the spectrum you can spend some serioes change at one of the bigger Cabo resorts but you also get waht you pay for in terms of amenities.
My husband and I just returned from Cabo last week and loved it. We stayed at the Villa Del Palmar. It is towards the end of the beach approx a 30 minute walk to town. Taxis are cheap (around $4-5) so I would recommend that with the heat. This resort was wonderful. We rented a studio condo and it was perfect. The staff was excellent and the resturant was very good. You must eat at The Trailer Park. Just tell the taxi driver that is where you want to go. It was hands down the best seafood I've ever had. It was expensive for Mexico but well worth it. Enjoy your trip.

the finisterra is definitley the place to stay. we have been several times. The old hotel was built into the sude od the cliffs overlooking the water It truly is the end of the earth. look at a map and see where the next land body is going south. I think the new section is called the palapa beach club so you might have to mention that specifically. We were thert last year over the fourth and are going back again same week We caught a 240 lb yellow fin tuna last year. Our luck probably won't be as good. If you want to charter use pisces fleet. we tried solmar fleet and weren't happy
