I returned from a similar trip a few weeks ago and the trip to SM is quite simple. Once you arrive in Mexico City, the easiest way to SM is to take a first-class bus FROM THE AIRPORT to Queretaro-they leave once an hour. From Queretaro first class buses leave quite regularly to SM. In fact, I might even suggest to spend the time in Queretaro as it is one of the most beautiful coloniel towns in MX. Your chioice depends on what you want to do. As for lodging, it depends on your price range. I stayed at the Hacienda de las Flores and loved it. It was a bit on the high end, though, and in Novemeber I expect it to be more expensive-perhaps $100 USD. I have heard good things about the Posada San Francisco next to the plaza and the price is more moderate. If you would like anymore info, please don't hesitate to contact me. Good luck in your vacation.
