Buquebus ferry tickets

Once the ticket is purchased at their office in Buenos Aires or in Colonia, would they allow any changes to the time but on the same day assuming there is enough space. If anyone knows about this please let me know. Thank you.

Graziella5b:

Thank you. If I may ask you for suggestions as to where to spend 4 days in Uruguay? I am planning a 1/2 a day in Colonia, renting a car and driving to Montevideo, spending the afternoon and night there and the next day drive to Punta Del este and maybe furthur down and the next day is open and the last day drive back to Colonia to return to Buenos Aires in the afternoon. Do you have any suggestion where to go and what to see as far small towns and villages and getting to know the people and the country instead of going to touristy places. Thank you.

One important question, when are you going, what time of the year. I shall respond to the best of my knowledge.

Ok. You will be in the High Season, actually the high, high season. So buy the Ferry tickets ahead of time, a few days will do. You can buy them by phone with a credit card they will be ready for you in the information desk. They can be changed with no penalty I do it all the time. Sometimes I do not even call. But calling would be better considering the time of year. This is valid for peronal tickets not for car tickets .I forgot to ask you if you are on a budget or not, assuming you are not necessarily on a budget and that Uruguay is not an expensive country, I believe that your plans are pretty good. In Montevideo you might stay in a lovely hotel with a nice pool in Carrasco, that is a little of the downtown. THe Beltmont House. Or if you wish to stay closer to downtown Montevideo the Melia is a good choice, close to a good shopping and to the golf club. You can have lunch or dinner in the golf club since it is open for non members to that effect. It is very nice.
Not far from the hotel there is in the rocky area of the beach a nice place to eat outdoors under lazy parasols .
From MOntevideo to Brazil there are many beaches, but none is as nice and offers so much to do as Punta del Este. You must have a hotel reservation because most hotels would be full at the begining of Jan.
Traditionally the Brazilians come to Montevideo the first week of January.
Having a car you can stay at L'Auberge and I heard there are nice little new quaint new small hotels now but I do not know their names.
You might enjoy staying in a Estancia, there is a web site for that. But considering the time of year, I would simple stay in Punta, driving around to places like to Jose Ignacio a trendy small former little town, and still is, but now very trendy up scale place. There are nice rest. some on the beach, reserve early even if they seem casual . Also to the Portezuelo area where there is a very nice
hotel, restauranat up in the hills.
Punta has it all, sports, fisihing, dance clubs, everything and I guess it would be the best to concentrate in that area. It will be hot and if you enjoy beaches it is the perfect place. In Jan. more crowded that the rest of the year but also when everything is going on.
Another possibility is to go to Carmelo before going to Montevideo and after Colonia, this is a tiny, little town, really TINY, nearby there is the oldest winery in Uruguay called Cerros de San Juan that can be visited. In Carmelo the place to stay is the Four Seasons, this is a place with great service, has a really beautiful pool, it is located by the river, and offer horse riding, a charming small spa, VERY NICE, nearby there is a Casino ( there are also casinos all over Uruguay,i.e. Montevideo, Punta) good golf, tennis etc. If you wish to spend a very relaxed day feeling pampered the Four Seasons if for you. Or as I said you should check a nearby Estancia and indulge in horse riding, trying the local asados, barbq
meats, and so forth.
Punta is full of activities, and you should ask the hotel concierge where to go, etc. because they should know and most likely it will make a difference. BUena suerte.

Sorry I meant that the Brazilians come to Punta del Este during the first week of January as tons of Argentineans. Punta is the place to be.

Uruguay has also another interesting touristic area, that is NOrth on the west coast. A few hours by car, there are several interesting spa areas. Warm water comes up and there are pools and the like. There are serveral, we went to the Termas de Arapey and stay in what they said it was a five stars hotel called Barcelo. But it was not my cup of tea. Nothing wrong but a little to big for me. Insteas it seems we should gone to hotel Los Naranjos closer to the city of Salto and closer to Montevideo. But in January I imagine it will be too hot. I am no expert and this could be a possibility it took us several hours to drive from Montevideo to Arapey I believe ithe distance is like 600 kms., not miles, kms.
Instead Colonia is only 180 kms from Montevideo and PUnta only 140 kms from Montevideo going East. Carmelo is not far from Colonia, going North. The 4 SAeasons has a shuttle service. IT takes like 30 minutes or less. The 4 Seasons is not in Carmelo town but nearby.
