We will be in Costa Rica this summer and we all have snorkel gear. Bad snorkeling (as I know Costa Rica isn't the greatest for it) is still better than no snorkeling. But we have a weight limit on the Sansa flight to Puerto Jimenez (where we are for four days before we go to Bosque del Cabo) and so I'm wondering if it's worth it to pack it (if it fits at all which after all it might not). After Bosque del Cabo we fly to Playa Conchal for four days, then to Arenal (where I know we don't need snorkel gear!). Kids are 10 and 12 and good swimmers if that matters.

Agree, I would leave it at home. Too much to see above the water and the water in Golfo Dulce tends to be silty.

Btw Monica since you will be in town in PJ. Several of us are getting there the 26th and staying at the beach. We are all planning to meet up at PizzaMail.it around 7'ish that night for dinner.

I wouldn't bother with snorkel gear either. If you think there may be something to see at Playa Conchal, I'd consider bringing lightweight swim goggles that don't take up much room or weight. We just did a beach vacation and thought it would have been nice to have them since we kept getting saltwater in our eyes from the waves.

Thanks for the input. I had snorkeled at Playa Conchal and thought it was worth it but there we're at an all inclusive so maybe just bringing the masks/snorkels is good enough because we can use their fins.

Hey, tully I also just realized that we are going to BdC on the 27th too. So we're probably all on the same jeeps that morning?

Probably different cars I am guessing with the amount of people. Six of us will be in PJ the 26th, grabbing 2 more at the airport on the 27th at 930am. So 8 of us and 1 personal car, so probably split 4/4 between the personal car and the Bosque car. So since 4 of you assuming they will just have a separate car.

They told us pick up at 10:00 am so I'm guessing we're on the same caravan at least.

Playa Conchal actually has decent snorkling by the beach on the far right hand side. Don't bother hiring a boat to take you out because the snorkling isn't as good. There are plenty of vendors renting snorkling equip for I think $5.

Really great place for a nice dinner is the restaurant in Hotel Conchal in Brasalito. Small place on the right as you enter Brasalito on the main road. The owner is the chef.

Thanks kayekaye! We can rent fins (or the all inclusive will have them) but I hate using rental masks and snorkels. Kind of gross plus they never fit quite right.

I do remember seeing new ones being sold in the gift shops in Brasalito. They are the real cheap ones that would costs about $7 in a drugstore in the US but I think they were around $20 in Costa Rica. Another option if you don't want to carry them the entire trip.
