Hola all!! We will be spending 5 nights( or longer)
next June at Bosque Del Cabo for the get-together.
We have 10 days in Costa Rica and were wondering if
it would be worth visiting Playa Nicuesa after Bosque. Are
they different enough to warrant the trip? Anyone have comments
or criticisms of PlayaNicuesa?
Muchas gracias!

Playa Nicuesa is one of the amazing Hotels in Costa Rica. Quiet and in harmony with the huge Nature of the area. I spent 3 night there, yoga at mornings was the great experience in my life.
I was underwhelmed personally. The cabinas themselves, very nice. The food & staff were good too. My main criticism is the location and the trails. As you probably know it's only accessible by boat. So there is a thin strip of black sand and then the forest. I felt a little hemmed in. This wouldn't have been so bad if I'd had lots of good trails, but did not. Now granted, this was several years ago, so maybe they have changed, I don't know. But when I attempted to go on the couple of trails, they were so poor I almost got lost. So I paid for a guide to go out with me. So I then paid for him to get lost with me as well.
So again, the lodge, staff, cabinas etc were all very nice, I was just put out by the maintenance of the trails.
Tully, I'm surprised you were underwhelmed, because, like Danny Traveller, I really like Nicuesa, and never found any problem with their trail or guide system. In a virgin rainforest like that, I'd recommend most folks go out with a guide, anyway.
I also love Bosque del Cabo, another of the most amazing hotels in Costa Rica.
If you're already doing 5 or more nights at Bosque, there's probably not enough difference in terms of activities/ecosystem between Bosque and Nicuesa to warrant staying at both.
Instead, I'd say try Arenal/La Fortuna or Monteverde, or a beach in Guanacaste or Nicoya...
tully, that's good information, as that's one aspect that's high priority for me (and I'm sure many other BdC fans)as well.
Happy Halloween, All!
I'm doing a long stay at Bosque. Muchas gracias all and happy
scary Holloween!
Eliot, your name is familiar... Did you not author
some guide books on Costa Rica??
Eliot, I've stayed at Bosque 12 times, so maybe I compare too much. But I did find Nicuesa's trails pretty poor. (Again w/the disclaimer that it's been 5-7 years, can't recall exactly, so maybe they've put more effort into the trails). One of the main pluses of Bosque is that I can go out and do all their trails without a guide. To me, no matter where I go in CR, is always a huge selling point.
crlover, are you driving down? I think you said you were. Have you looked at Danta Corcovado? It's on the way to PJ. Another place you look into is Rio Magnolia, about 45 minutes or so from the crossroads at Dominical.
Hola Tully, we thought we'd fly down this time.
How many days are you
You really don't need a car at Bosque, so it's really
just an unnecessary expense. However, I did check
out your suggestions and both places look fabulous!
Good fodder for another trip!
staying at Bosque, and when do you arrive?
I'll be there the same time as you crlover. I will arrive to CR 8 days beforehand, no plan yet, need to get my trip to Nicaragua in a couple weeks out of the way first! I will be driving down though I think, dropping off at in PJ before I go to Bosque.
Can't wait to hear about Nicarauga! Safe travels
Tully!
