Border Towns

Jump to last reply

I have what may be seen as an odd request. I have a great interest in the US/Mexico border area, and have read much about it in recent years. My interest is getting the best of me, and I would now like to pay a visit.

My question is this: What is/are the best border town(s) to visit? Please don't tell me I should check out Cancun, Mexico City or Monterrey; that's not my focus. I'm interested in experiencing what it's like to live on the border. Right now, I'm leaning toward visiting El Paso/Juarez, but please let me know if I might find another town bordering California, Arizona, or New Mexico more interesting. I'm looking for great contrasts; beauty/blight, wealth/poverty, urban/rural.
