I'm trying to find a good beach spot for vacation with extended family. There will be 13 of us, broken into three mini groups. We definitely don't want one big house to rent. Ideally we'd like a few small houses so everyone can have their own space and privacy (there are four young kids, some of whom nap). But we want to be close enough we can walk to each other's place. Because of the big group we also don't want to rent a car - we need to be able to walk to a market or town, beaches, restaurants, activities. Also don't want to eat out every meal which is why a rental house is preferred - we'll need a kitchen for every group.
We've stayed in Belize and rented one house together which was lovely but a bit too close - that's why we'd rather be in nearby homes. Central america is preferred, but Mexico is also an option. Any suggestions on beach areas or small towns that might fit the bill and would be safe with young kids?
Big group - any ideas?

Lots of rental opportunities on Roatán - I think that's where I'd head. Happy planning!
Puerto Vallarta is lovely and could fit what you describe. There are lots of apartments, condos, some villas available for rent that are walking distance within the city. Endless choices of great restaurants, activities, tours, fun things to do around town. PV is safe, but it's not a 'small town' though, it's a city pop ~250,000 so perhaps to large and busy for what you seek.
Tulemar Bungalows in Manuel Antonio is very popular.
Condos would be ideal for groups; Flamingo Beach in Costa Rica?
I meant to add the Manuel Antonio is in Costa Rica. Lots of monkeys, etc. around.
Manuel antonio and Flamingo Beach look amazing, but are there groceries nearby? We'd like to have the option of eating in for several meals also.
PV is an option to consider! It would at least be close to the airport and there would be plenty to do.
Roatan is very intriguing. I'm assuming there are small grocery options sprinkled about despite the resorts? Or do you need to stay closer to the airport for that?
Yes there are groceries in both MA and Flamingo Beach.
Thank you! These are some great ideas that weren't on my radar!
