Best type of SUV for driving Arenal to MV?

Hello! My husband and I will be in CR in April, and are wondering what type of SUV is good for the drive between Arenal and Monteverde? We are happy with manual drive. It is pretty cheap to rent a Suzuki Vitara from Dollar, but will that be sufficient power/size for the drive? Other places offered Toyota RAV4's or Kia Sportages, but they cost 1/3 more than the Suzuki. Would they be better, or the Suzuki good enough?

Thanks!

Having experienced the roads into and around MV, I'd go for the biggest, toughest SUV I could get--with the highest ground clearance. Not a RAV4 soccer-Mom car.

By the way, I drive a RAV4 at home and love it for the type of driving I do, but not for real off-road or rough road driving. The local soccer-Moms do think it's cute.

I think it's almost more important to have a vehicle with higher clearance. The power thing is really secondary. We rented one of the lower-end SUVs, a Suzuki Jimny or whatever they call it down there. It was one up from the economy SUV and we opted for the slightly more expensive SUV because it had higher clearance. You don't really need more than that.
The road is quite rough so it's not like you'll be driving too fast!
We got a rate of just under $300US for one week with TriColor...the best rates around I found (including insurance).

The roads aren't that bad right now. We just arrived back from CR. We drove from Arenal to Monteverde (3 3/4 hours). We only had an Outlander and that was fine in terms of clearance.

We never had any problems with the little one -- the Terios or whatever it's called. Plenty high enough and comfortable enough for the two of us.
