Belize/Guate/Hond itinerary assistance

Jump to last reply

I appreciate all of the help I was given in my previous thread - my partner and I are both really excited about the prospect of visiting these beautiful countries next year. I've started piecing together a rough itinerary; would appreciate feedback as to where we should stay longer/shorter, if the travel times are unrealistic, etc.

June 12 - Fly to Cancun, transfer to our hotel in Tulum
13 - Tulum
14 - Tulum
15 - Tulum
16 - Tulum
17 - Tulum
18 - leave Tulum, bus to Chetumal, water taxi to San Pedro
19 - San Pedro
20 - San Pedro
21 - leave San Pedro, water taxi to Belize City, shutte to San Ignacio
22 - San Ignacio
23 - San Ignacio
24 - leave San Ignacio, bus to Flores
25 - Flores
26 - leave Flores, travel to Guatemala City/Antigua (on to Antigua immediately, so long as transfer is available at that time)
27 - Antigua
28 - Antigua
29 - Antigua
30 - Antigua
July 1 - leave Antigua, bus to Copan
2 - Copan
3 - leave Copan, bus to La Ceiba
4 through 7 - La Ceiba/Roatan/Utila

In terms of our actual leave from work, we're required to be back in Australia for work on Monday, July 11. Transit from States to Aus is usually 36 hours or so, but the international date line is working against us. Realistically we will have to leave Honduras by the 8th or so. However, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't make it back exactly on time - no chance of being fired, etc. So things could theoretically go wrong, as long as our travel insurance covers the financial impact.

Notes: aren't spending a lot of time in Flores, is this a mistake? It's just that we're going to Copan as well as Tikal, so don't think we need massive amounts of time in the ruins. Using Antigua as a base for exploring Lake Atitlan/ Volcan Pacaya -- ok or should we be using Lake Atitlan as the base instead? Also staying for so long in Tulum as we have a flat rate to use our membership, so the stay works out cheaper/day if we stay for more than a couple of days. Maybe find a way to spend another day in San Ignacio?...just trying to save money where possible, and Belize seems significantly more costly than Guate/Honds.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :)
