belize vs. costa rica
i have been to costa rica before & had a great time. i have also been to the caribbean many times. i have not yet been to belize....but will it seem redundant if i've already been to costa rica & caribbean?

Belize offers access to some amazing ruins and to great snorkeling, diving, and caving, also everyone speaks English which makes it pretty user friendly. Hol Chan is the best snorkeling we've ever done.

I don't think it would be redundant, Belize is a very neat and unique country due to its past history and has a lot to offer I feel. I haven't been to many Caribbean countries but I have spent a lot of time in Costa Rica and to compare there with Belize, is like comparing apples and oranges. They're completely different countries.
What areas of Belize were you interested in visiting? Belize has some spectacular Mayan ruins which neither Costa Rica or the Caribbean have. As awesome as the Caribbean is, nothing can compare to the majestic beauty of the cayes found in Belize. You could also combine your time in Belize with a trip over the border into Guatemala to check out Tikal, some of the best Mayan ruins in all of the Americas.

It wouldn't be redundant. Should you travel to Belize? Depends on what you're looking for out of a vacation. Belize has better ruins and snorkeling/scuba. Costa Rica has better adventure and inland ecotourism options* and better tourist infrastructure. Belize has better food.
*Virtually any budget can get you fantastic wildlife and ecotourism options in Costa Rica. To get a similar experience in Belize, you have to splurge for a place like Chan Chich or the Lamanai Outpost Lodge.

I have to agree, Belize has better food. On Caye Caulker, the local fisherman still supply the restaurants with fresh seafood. When you order fish or lobster on caye caulker, it was caught that day, at the reef you can see from your dinner table. You just don't find that anywhere in the world anymore.
Belize also has some really unique things to do. The Cave Tubing is a must. You will not find it anywhere else. Belize has underground rivers that flow out to the sea. It is the fresh waters of these rivers that cause murkey water along the coast of Belize, which is one of the fabled reasons that Belize is called Belize, it means Murky Waters. Anyhow...these rivers flow though some cave systems. These caves and rivers are all natural, nothing is man-made. You will float on an inner tube, through caves, down old rivers into the jungle. It is an amazing way to spend an afternoon!
I have done this Cave tubing trip 3 times in the past 5 years, and whenever I have had family visit me in Belize, I always send them on the trip too. Book this tour on-line, you will save money.
I have used www.belizecruiseexcurions.com before and have always been treated really well so I have never bothered to book with anyone else.
Don't forget a water resistant camera, with a flash if possible! And, wear a tshirt or light wetsuit if you have one!
