Belize in December

We are considering a family trip to Belize over the Christmas holiday - probably staying in San Pedro Ambergis Caye. Our "kids" are 22 and 29, both into the oudoors. Is this a good time of year? Bugs, weather, etc? Also, the best way to get there - should we fly in to Belize City? Then what?

Thank you!!

Can't advise on weather in December, but we flew to Belize City and then got a connecting flight to Ambergris. I know that some people will take a boat, but this seemed the easiest for us.

There are now two main options to go by boat from Belize City to San Pedro and Caye Caulker. The Caye Caulker Water Taxi boats still leave from the Marine Terminal, but the Tourist Village Water Taxi Association boats now leave from the new Fort Point Tourist Village. The new Tourist Village docks and the area where you wait are cleaner and nicer than the Marine Terminal, with better security, and I think most visitors who decide to go by boat will find this a better choice. The prices are the same, and the schedules are similar though right now the Tourist Village boats run later in the afternoon.

If you want to fly, especially if you are traveling in a party of three or more, you'll save a good bit of money by taking a taxi from the international airport to municipal (US$17.50) and flying from there. One-way flights from municipal to San Pedro are US$26 and about twice that from international.

--Lan Sluder
