hi everyone -
i'm in the midst of planning my first trip to belize for early december 2012. i believe i have narrowed down my lodging in the cayo district to one of the 3:
ian anderson's caves branch
mystic river resort
sleeping giant
all 3 are highly ranked on trip advisor...although i think ian anderson has been in the business the longest? only turn off is that there have been reports of the staff stealing $ at ian anderson's. i hope they have remedied that problem since those reports. the rooms and amenities at all 3 sounds great from what i've read. do you have any opinion on any of these? so that's my 1st question.
my 2nd question is: since the lodges don't offer the exact same tours, it seems i have to decide which tour is most worthwhile: the waterfall cave expedition vs. mountain pine ridge/rio frio/rio on pools. i'd love to hear what you think about these tours so i can make the best decision. thanks!

Does the Mountain Pine Ridge tour include a visit to Caracol? Most tours to Caracol include stops at Rio Frio cave and Rio On pools. That would be a clear choice, in my opinion--IF it includes Caracol.
Of the three have only stayed at Caves Branch. The waterfall Cave Expedition is amazing. We did the black hole drop and cave tubing as well, but they paled in comparison to the cave adventure. Lodge very nice, guides great, and good food served in a communal setting. Went in the summer when water running high in both the cave and river. Lot of new lodges in Belize since we went five years ago.
It feels like you're wanting us to compare apples to oranges and we don't know you well enough to know if you would like a real adventury adventure (Waterfall Caves) or more of a tour. The good news is you are likely to have a blast no matter what you pick and whatever you don't see this time around is just an excuse to go back!
