Belize airports?

When looking at prices for flights to Ambergris, it's cheaper to fly from the municipal airport - has anyone done this? Are you on the same sort of plane, etc. as if you leave from the International airport? Any reason not to use the municipal one? Thanks for the help!

volcanogirl, we flew into BZE, so flew Tropic Air from there to Ambergris. On the return, we planned to take a bus to the Cayo District. For that reason, we flew back into Municipal simply because it was a short distance (taxi ride) to the bus station. So you can do whatever, depending on your plans. There was some difference in price, but not much if I recall. The hotel on Ambergris made those reservations for us.

Actually, the prices are quite a lot less from the municipal airport than from the international airport, and - as above - the taxi rides are shorter and cheaper from the bus station, dock etc.; it's $25US from the international airport into town (per taxi, not per person).

If you're heading from Cayo and want to fly to an island or are flying from an island to Belize City to head west by road, the municipal airport makes more sense. We've only flown in Belize in order to stay our last night somewhere wonderful and have flown into BZE to connect with our international flights.

We got a 25% discount on Maya Air from EZE-AC by paying in cash last June. We walked up and paid when we arrived (it was low season) although others managed to reserve in advance and paid in cash at the airport. It seems to be unadvertised but read about it on several travel sites.

We're lazy and basically fly from BZE. For two people, the savings aren't that great, by the time you pay for the cab. Our international flights are sometimes late in arriving in Belize, and the municipal airstrip has no lights.

The planes are the same. In face, you may well depart from Municipal and fly to BZE to pick up more passengers, before heading to Ambergris.

Thanks, everyone - we'd be coming from the Cayo district.

If you're coming from Cayo, I'd fly from municipal. On your way back from Ambergris, you might want to fly into BZE to connect to your intl departure (assuming Ambergris is your last stop).

That's kind of what we were thinking - thanks for pointing us in the right direction.
