Belcove Hotel Belize

Does anybody have any experience with this hotel in Belize City. Is it a safe option for spending the night in the city? Pro's and Con's? I'm a single woman traveling the country, and might need to stay in Belize City for the first night.

Also has anybody stayed at the Belcove Island Lodge on Gallow's point Caye? What's that like?

thanks!

I assume its fine, but have not stayed there or booked anyone there or at Gallows Point, but love snorkeling and diving off Gallow's Point. Also look at Hotel Mopan on Regent St near Belcove.

Hotel Mopan is a bit out of my budget for this trip. I'm looking to spend around 20USD per day on all accommodations.

I'm looking at the Belcove in Belize City for our last night. Books mention that it's not in a great neighborhood - true? I like the locaion, right off the swing bridge - I could just sit and watch the traffic all day.

What's the Hotel Mopan's location like? It looks nice as well, with great views from the top floor, and the price is right.

Yeah it seems like you get mixed reviews about this place from different sources. toucan trail suggests it, there are some good reviews on trip advisor, but then I read in books that its in a bad part of the neighborhood.

very confused.

yeah, and I always wonder if some of the safety info is too alarmist. Most cities have dangerous neighborhoods, and/or dangerous people. One of the points of traveling is to break out of one's comfort zone, I think. But, not at the expense of getting mugged, or hurt!

AS it is, I'm leaning towards the Hotel Mopan, since on their website it says they are members of the Belize Tourism Industry Association, and the Belize Audubon Society. Their location is great, too, downtown, so we can check out the city, such as it is.
