Ok guys - the age old question.

Where the heck in Brazil should i go for 5 days to experience the heavenly beaches so talked about?

I want calm clear green/blue waters..oh and warm waters to swim in. Not touristy hotels...but Pousadas to rent for 5 days.

I looked at Fernando de Norn...too expensive.
Porto Galinhas?
Salvador - Praia de Forte (my uncle stayed at Itacimirim beach at a pousada 7km away from Praia de Forte)
Porto Seguro?
Natal?

wE're going to Rio for New yr's eve, Iguazu for 2 days and the Amazon for 4. Wanted to do Salvador for 5 days...2 nights in Salvador and 3 at the beachside. But now i'm confused. I think the northeast is known for the blue/green beaches.

Oh and anyone heard of Jeri? the beach. jericoarca or something. Supposed to be beautiful. But this means we'll have to skip Salvador.

One thing you really have to focus on is distance. Brazil is a huge country. Many of these flights will eat up most of a day. Add to that switching between places and much of your vacation may be spent simply traveling.

GOL Brazil is one option for much of your flights. They have a good English website and are equivalent to our SouthWest Air.

You will certainly have a beach in Rio, so that will keep you busy with sand and surf. And, most every int'l flight to Brazil goes into or out of Rio or Sao Paolo (though Salvador has a couple also). Thus, even on your return you may likely have to get back to one of these cities to catch a flight home.

Take a look at Buzios, 2 hour drive from Rio. Lots of beaches and a very nice, sophisticated, safe beach town. If you head there after the New Year's hopefully it won't be packed. Porto de Galinhas is also very nice, but it is far from these southern cities and is very small. Have fun. Brazil is great.

thanks folks - but we do have 5 days apart from the rest of our trip and would love to really understand where else to explore for good beaches...as I understand Buzios is nice but if we want to visit Salvador - then what is the best beach there?

If we skip Salvador, is Porto Galinhas the green/blue beach or should we consider Morro de Sao Paulo or even Fernando? The pics for Fernando Nornonha look amazing.

Where are all the beach afficianados out there?! Help!

Most people, but not all, will say that the NorthEast of Brazil has the most beautiful beaches. There are a number of states up there, all with beautiful beaches. Salvador is certainly one of them. Remember, however, that Salvador is both a city and a state. The city is good to see but it is not a beach destination. You can fly in there and then head to a number of beach towns. Much will depend on your budget. You can go cheap with a simple pousada or more deluxe. There are many good travel sites that list hotels in the NorthEast. Peruse those and then research the hotels you like.

Porto de Galinhas would mean you fly into Recife. Its less than an hour from there by highway. Beautiful beaches there too. If you want deluxe, take a look at Nannai.

Have fun. From all the beaches we have visited everywhere, Brazil has the best beach culture. Marvelous and highly recommended.

Hi!
I can sugest to you 2 places, both in South of Bahia: Itacaré and Trancoso( a comunity next to Porto Seguro). In these 2 places is possible you stay in familiar hotels and pay good prices. From one to other the distnce is small.

For truly unique beaches try Alter do Chao ('the Caribbean of the Amazon') and swim in the crystal-clear fresh water of the Tapajos. The season should be good for the beaches there as the river will be about its lowest and there will be the most beach. Plus you can combine it with the Amazon section of your trip -- it is close to Santarem and Santarem is two days by traditional riverboat (or one hour by plane) from Manaus. And, actually, Santarem has a few advantages over Manaus as a base for seeing some of the Amazon.
