Beach or other destination

Hello

I have been a fairly regular of the travel forums for a few months, and I am struck, in the Mexico postings, on how many are related to beach resorts (and primarily Yucatan) as opposed to all of the other things Mexico has to offer.

There is nothing at all wrong with a beach/resort vacation. However, I would think that a greater percentage of postings would deal all the variety that Mexico has to offer - Native American ruins, colonial cities, vibrant large cities, the great outdoors, etc. And for general reading of the postings, it does get a little tiresome after a while to read someone's question about what hotel to stay in in PDC. (Not that PDC isn't nice!).

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I agree totally. I realize that people have questions re the resorts and that's fine, but people are really missing out on a lot if all they see is the beach. My husband and I have been to Mexico several times - it's our favourite winter destination - and we often try to combine a few days at the beach with some time in the interior. That to me is the ideal winter vacation. In February we hope to take a couple of weeks and go to Morelia and Patzcuaro (with maybe a short stop in Mexico City) and then spend a few days on the west coast somewhere. I have a trip coming up to Greece and Turkey in September, but I'll start doing my research right after that. Howard, you may see some postings from me then!
I think it is very important to pick you home base first and then look into the activities once you get there. Even though I am only in my room for pit stops and sleeping, when I am there, I want to feel at 'home' and happy with my choice - I know that is why I have asked questions about where to stay (since it will be my first time to Mexico). By the way..does anyone know of any great resort to stay at in PDC (hee, hee).

Hi again -

Susan - Some good points. I have been thinking of making the same trip - to Morelia and Patzcuaro, via flight to Mexico City. Sounds like a winning trip.

Dennis - To each his own goes without saying, I just think some variety would be good.

Jo - I was in PDC last year, and stayed at El Faro Hotel. It was really nice with and I would recommend it.

Dan - Thanks for the tip, but I believe the rules posted by Fodor's state that there should be no commercial postings.
