Beach Erosion in Playa del Carmen??

I've been reading about some major beach erosion in the Playa del Carmen area. Many of the resorts are now sitting next to a drop off into the ocean instead of the beautiful beach front property you see on their websites.
Can anyone confirm these stories?

Drop off into the ocean is way, and I mean WAYYYY off base, incredible.
We are in Playa now, and have been on and off since 1999. I have yet to see any kind of structure drop off into the sea, let alone a building !!!
Where do you get this stufffff !!!!!

I didn't mean the buildings dropped off into the sea, but that there is now a few foot drop into the water.
Some claims are that the water is now all the way up to some of the beachfront properties.
I've been looking at pictures of playa for a few weeks now and all of the resort pictures show exactly what I want. I'm just wondering if the landscape still looks as beautiful as the resort pictures.

I just checked the xaman ha webcam, and that beach looks considerably deeper/wider than the two times we visited it. When we were there the water came up more or less to the retaining wall. Now it looks like there is an actual beach with loungers on it.

The beach in Playa is constantly changing even from day to day. I've seen days where the beach is wide and tons of sand and a few days later much of it is washed away. It all depends on the way the currents are moving and any offshore storms. My last trip in January I'll admit, the beach was quite disappointing. Very narrow and quite rocky. Give it few days and it will all change again.

Beaches come & go.
I remember on Saint Martin in '74 one hurricane (David) took out the beach & another (Fredrick) a week later put it back.
