We are surprising our spouses for their joint 40th birthday to BZ next Wednesday...and we are worried about Tropical Storm Ida! We are staying at the Victoria House for 4 nights and I just checked the weather--predicts rain every single day during our stay. We had planned to snorkel, sail, swim, scuba, tubing and arranged a beach dinner as well. I'd appreciate your past experiences with the tropical storms for your impending trips and what your advice are...we have been SO LOOKING forward to this special trip, after a long time of planning!
Thanks!

They're unpredictable because you don't know which way they'll turn. It's already hitting Nicaragua today and is expected to be up by Cancun on Monday. Maybe it will be out of the area by the time you get there. I have been on vacation before when a hurricane has hit, and we just went into lockdown mode in the hotel. A week would be a very long time for a storm to linger about. It seems odd to have a hurricane so late in the season. I really hope it all works out for you.
Most of the worst hurricanes to hit CA have been in November, I think. It looks like you've dodged the bullet this time, though - Ida should be centered on the gulf of Mexico by Tuesday and the charts make it look hopeful that Belize will only see the edges of it. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/203716.shtml?5-daynl#contents
Have a blast in Belize (you lucky duck) and be sure to tell us all about it.
Our friends got back from Cancun yesterday (11/6/09) and they said they had heavy rain from Wednesday of this week on but hopefully it will be letting up soon if it hasn't already.
When we were in Belize in the fall, we had plenty of nice weather mixed in with the heavy (but warm) rain. We found it wise to plan our day trips at the last minute and everyone was fine with that. We would make arrangements one day in advance and our resort's tour desk would help us with what the weather was likely to do. We still got soaked to the skin a couple times but we had a blast. A hat that won't blow off easily can come in handy.
