Arenal with family of 6

I'm looking for recommendations in Arenal area for 6 people. On our last trip to Costa Rica, we stayed in "family rooms" or "family suites" intended for groups. Many places had kitchenettes, too. I'm having trouble searching for places like that around La Fortuna. We are looking for something budget friendly.

I think the Lost Iguana and Arenal Observatory Lodge might have what you're looking for.

The Observatory Lodge might work. I can't really get a price for 6 on the website, but I'll email them.

http://www.arenalobservatorylodge.com/rooms is a link to all their room descriptions if that helps.

I've seen nice reviews of a place called Villa Hermosa, but not sure if it holds that many people.

I think Los Lagos might also have what you're looking for; it's very popular with young families. Maybe Silencio del Campo as well.

This one at Los Lagos has two queen and two rollaway beds.

They also have a villa and some other options.

Have you considered looking for a home on VRBO (Homeaway)? There are probably some very nice places around Lake Arenal. Look for homes that are well reviewed and that include security guards or gates.

Yes, I've looked, but I feel a little nervous. For one thing, we don't rent a car and most I looked at were far away from the city. I like to be able to make snacks and pack lunches to go, but I also appreciate having breakfast included with the hotel so I'm not cooking 3 meals a day for 6. We also used the hotel staff a lot on our last vacation there: for sorting out confusions with excursions or for advice. Hubby is all for renting a house, though.

Without a car in that location, I wouldn't rent a house, either. We love renting mainly so we are not all sleeping in one room. Some houses have managers or owners that live nearby that can give advice.

Arenal Observatory Lodge wanted $485 a night. Ouch!

I email several places that had rooms for 5, and several responded that since our youngest will be 4, if she sleeps with us (which she will do regardless, I'm sure) that we could be in a room for 5. That opened up more possibilities in the $150 a night range
