Will be in Guanajuato this summer (month of July), likely attending Escuela Mexicana. Was thinking of spending the first week in a hotel and then finding an apartment for the final three weeks. Question: is it realistic to think I can find a nice, convenient, reasonably-priced convenient apartment on a weekly basis In July without booking in advance?

No, it's not realistic. I live in Guanajuato, and apartments here rent by the month, not the week. Your best bets are hotels or vacation-rental apartments, such as the one at gtoapartment.com.

Check VRBO. There are one bedrm one bath apartments in central Guanajuato close to the language schools- one in [articular is fully furnished, including kitchen items, and rents for $35 a night, $236 a wk; also a small furnished house, 1 br, 1 bath, for $42 a night, $252 a wk.
