Any advice for Tikal?

Jump to last reply

Hello! I am going to Tikal for 2 nights at the end of February and we’ve booked our room at the Jaguar Inn. Mostly because it was incredibly expensive at the other two lodging options in Tikal and I just could not justify it! I am finding it somewhat amusing that the most expensive part of my Guatemala trip involves staying at an accommodation that doesn’t have electricity! I am excited for this though. :-)

Anyway, I’ve done a lot of research but have some Tikal questions for those of you in the know:
- Does the Jaguar Inn have a pool? If not, is it okay to use the pools at Tikal Inn or the Jungle Lodge if you are not a guest?
- Is it advisable to book transportation from Flores airport to Tikal in advance, or is it easy to catch one of the shuttle buses going to the park? Our flight gets in at 11:00am.
- We have a vegetarian in the group – any thoughts on which is the best place for food in Tikal, whether at the lodges or comedors? I understand not to expect anything gourmet, but I’ve been reading such conflicting reviews on food in this area.
- Is it true that if you are staying within the park, you can get your entry ticket stamped so you may stay in the park up until 8pm to see the sunset from one of the temples? Has anyone done this? It is safe to remain in the park up to that time?
- Finally, what is the weather like in Tikal this time of year, both during the day and at night? Should I bring shorts?

Thanks for any advice! I just booked the trip last week and have never had such short lead time to research a trip before, but the more I read up on Guatemala the more I am looking forward to this!
