Anniversary in Cabo, Will we enjoy it??
Planning our 25th in September. We are looking at staying at the Pueblo Bonita Rose. Looking for more information on this hotel, or possibly its sister, Pueblo Bonita Blanco, than you would normally find through a travel agent. Have you stayed there and when? Have read some nasty messages on the board about bad experiences but my thought is as long as you know what is going on around you, you should be safe. I have never been to Mexico but wanted to go some place new, with a tropical atmosphere, warm water and sun.

We just returned from there last week. Pueblo Bonito hotels are nice, but intense time share pressure from many on premises. If you want american feel and brand new hotel with great pool, stay there. There is virtually no beach in front of the hotel. I know deals can be made there as all tourism related businesses are suffering in Cabo right now. We stayed at Hacienda Beach resort nearby and loved it. It has a big beach, local feel and nice people with no pressure. It is an older resort with the best location in Cabo, lots of palm trees, but rooms are not luxurious. The ocean view standard rooms are in great setting as are the cabanas. (We watched the sunrise over the bay every morning). The weather was absolutely perfect and the food for a Mexican resort wss terrific -- lots of shellfish and good local mexican. The margaritas at the Hacienda were the best I've ever had anywhere (but be careful as they are potent!)

Now for the downside...we've been to 9 different desitnations in Mexico and find Cabo to be overpriced and the constant sales pressure to be annoying. It can be a good trip if you get in the right mindset and ignore them and do some research into dining and transportation where prices vary ridiculously. Good luck!

One more thing-- I just read some of the recent negative remarks about safety in Cabo. At no time did we ever feel uncomfortable over an 8 day period. We explored the town by foot both day and night. Safety just wasn't an issue. Cabo was a lot more run down than most other Mexican resorts -- had the feel of a border town with much poverty. I don't know who is reaping all the considerable profit from the high prices there, but definitely not the locals.

Cabo is definitely not tropical if that's what you're looking for. It is a desert climate - dry and hot in the summer. I agree with the other posters that Cabo is very expensive compared to other places in Mexico and the timeshare people can get annoying. I have also never felt unsafe and I didn't find it run down. I enjoy going down to Cabo for long weekends because it is the closest destination from where I live where I can see white sand and blue water. But if I lived farther away, I'm not sure I would choose to go there.

My mom has a time share at Pueblo Bonito Blanco. SHe LOVES it there - goes every year for 1 or 2 weeks - for 9 years now. Blanco is better than Rose if you can get it - more rooms closer to the beach. Cabo has become overpriced, but having been to other places further out of town (north), I am happy to be at PB since you can walk to town if you want to and avoid the $20 cab ride that can happen from other resorts up the beach. Being close to town is important isn't it? otherwise you might as well be at any old pool?
