I am trying to plan a trip for 2 adults and one 12 year old for this summer. We are all 3 divers and I am trying to secure a rental property. I would like to find something close to the Dive shops and not too far from places to eat/drink. I may be over thinking this as the island may be small enough that this does not matter. Any suggestions on “where” on the island to stay would be appreciated greatly….Thank you.

Do you want a condo? One of two bedrooms? Budget?
Since you want to be close to food/drink, I'd look closer at south of town, or just north of the bridge.
As long as you don't get miles away, any of the dive shops will pick you up at the closest dock to where you're staying.
While the properties on the far north side of the cut/bridge are very beautiful (and relatively inexpensive) it can be quite a trek to get to town for dining. I hear that even bikes have to pay a use fee to get across the bridge, maybe JeanH could confirm?
Caye Casa was very centrally located, oceanfront with a tiny manmade "beach," offers sailboat use with a captain at a very low rate, and has two 2 bedroom condos. 5 min walk from bakery and other local eateries, 10-15 min walk to central part of town. Or if you want to save a bit, your daughter could stay on the futon in the living room of the 1 br studios which are quite inexpensive and have a kitchenette. These were lovely little cabanas with porches out facing the water, we paid only 99/night in low season.
Yes, bikes do have to pay to cross the bridge. I think it's BZ$2.00 (US$1.00) per round trip. Don't lose your ticket.....
We are looking for a 2 bedroom condo. Caye management was recommended by one of the Dive Shops Coral Casa was the condo they mentioned. It sounds like I do not want to be south of the Boca del Rio Bridge to be in the best location (and to save on tolls)? Do I understand that correctly? Will look at Caye Casa for sure. Thank you all for the information now if any of you can find a reasonbly priced flight from Philadelphia in July that would be great (a miracle possibly but great none the less)
I know where Caye Casa is. I've never been inside. It's pretty much a local neighborhood along a road that fronts the beach. The road doesn't get much traffic any more since the road a block in has been paved....
If you want more of a resort feel, look at Caribbean Villas. Their two bedroom loft units are very nice, and very spacious. Nice little pool and beach bar on site. About a mile south of town.
For more upscale, look at the Phoenix, Xanadu and Banyan Bay.
