Allegro resorts: Cozumel, PV, or Punta Cana
Message: Hi,
We are planning vacations with our 6 year old daughter.
Is anybody personally familiar with Allegro resorts in Nuevo Vallarta, Cozumel, and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). Are all of them the same? Any difference in service, entertainment, kids activities, food, and etc.? Allegro Nuevo Vallarta (Puerto Vallarta) is rated higher. Why?. Thanks in advance

Have stayed at the Allegro Playa Del Carmen and the Allegro Cozumel. Loved them both but the Cozumel Allegro is better for kids. The kids program was excellent. Lots to do over there as opposed to PDC. The snorkeling is great for kids, safe roped off area and great beach. There are some pet parrots at the dive shop that the kids can feed and hold. The beach is a great place to hike, iguanas to view and jungle areas to explore.
Playa Del Carmen is more for adults, topless bathers..very european clientele. Very quiet. A little more Eurpena food selection ( beef stew 20 ways) I would recommend the Allegro Coz for kids.
We are going to Allegro Nueva Vallarta in a couple weeks, heard the beaches arent that great..Ill keep you posted. My kids are 9 and 11.

Just got back from the Allegro Nuevo Vallarta. Would highly recommend it for your 6 year old, there is a very shallow kids pool and the kids club was geared toward little tykes more so than the other allegros. Lots of beach to walk on and play on. The Paradise Club is nearby and they have a mini zoo you can go see for free!

The Allegro in Nuevo Vallarta is super!
The food and service were fabulous. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, even luxurious I'd say. There are lots of activities for kids, and the mini-zoo at the resort next door is a must-see for sure, there are tons of exotic animals. The Nuevo Vallarta area is very new and clean as well and safe. The only thing I'd warn you about is any offers (free tours, etc.) from the management. That's how they try to sell you their time shares. Have a great vacation whatever you decide!

Had booked the Allegro Bavaro in Punta Cana in Jan. 1999.

Fortunately, upon our arrival, the hotel was overbooked and they housed us next door at the Natura Park. I say fortunately, because we did not care for the Allegro Bavaro-- the layout felt confining and very hot. (All the hotel room buildings encircled the pool and outdoor theater and bar areas.)

Food at the Allegro was poorer qualtity and the restaurant areas were always crowded.

The Allegro Grand was next door to the Bavaro, and they had guards with guns posted on their beach ---didn't give you a feeling of comfort or relaxation.

In addition, although we had a great 4 day vacation at the Natura Park, I wouldn't want to have stayed there longer for you are pretty much confided to your resort area. Nothing to do off the premises unless you rent a car (not advisable)or pay for overpriced tours to less than exciting destinations.

Have been to Cozumel and PDC, and would vote for Cozumel as a first choice with the chldren--more to do and see and a far safer atomosphere.
