Hi, I've booked a trip to the bahia Coba. My boyfriend and I are set to go next Wednesday (18). The weather reports I have been looking at say it is supposed to rain the entire six nights I am scheduled to be there. It simply says showers. What my question is: when weather report says showers does that mean all day or periodically throughout the day with some sunshine?
Thank you

It always says showers in that area. You may have a late afternoon or evening shower. Don't let the weather report upset you. Go and enjoy whatever the weather may bring.

I'm no expert but it would be incredibly unusual for it to rain 24/7. That said, summer IS rainy season in all the coastal Mexican resort towns.
Personally I never look at weather forecasts before my trip. My bet is you'll be OK with plenty of sunshine and a few occasional showers.
I was in Akumal this past Sun., Mon., and Tues. (got home yesterday). It rained only once, in the afternoon for a bit on Tues., around 4 p.m. Not hard enough to get people out of the water, but those on the beach took cover in the restaurant on the beach (which by the way is very very good for both food and drink). It cooled things off nicely. After we ate, we went back out on the beach and also snorkeled some more. The rain didn't stop much at all from happening.
I was in Playa del Carmen for a month on this same trip, from mid-June to mid-July, returning on Wed., yesterday. It only rained hard twice, once when that tropical storm Debbie went through (that lasted one day, next day was clear) and one day it rained hard for a few hrs. from 5 p.m. til 7 p.m. That was the only rain we got in one month. And guess what, the forecast was for rain almost every day, lol.
Wonderful! Thank you
