generally airline tickets for fly to chile are cheaper at the US. For domestics flights in chile I have no info, but there are a lot of good offers, you have to compare. For example see www.lanchile.com, www.skyairline.cl

Do not buy until you are there.
I went to Chile and Peru two years ago. I bought one internal return ticket in advance (from Lima, Peru, to Tacna, Peru). I paid just over y160 for this.
After I arrived in Lima I flew down to Tacna. I then crossed into Chile and went to the airport in Arica. I bought a single from Arica to Iquique for US$20. A few days later I caught one back again for $20.
Once back in Tacna I decided I did not want to fly back to Lima (ps LanPeru is owned by LanChile so I think this is relevant) but wanted to go to Cuzco. I went to a travel agent and for US$30 swapped the return section of Lima-Tacna ticket for a single from Tacna to Cuzco.
Once in Cuzco I bought a single to fly Cuzco to Lima (on Boxing Day - ie, high tourist season) for $120. In the Uk I was quoted over y300 for a return from Lima to Cuzco over the Christmas period.
Also several years ago I was in Mendoza (Arg) and caught a flight from Mendoza to Santiago. I paid US$70 in Mendoza airport.
I do not believe you will get airline tickets in the west for under $100. I seriously recommend going to the airport and just asking to get on the next flight to whereever.
I will do this in future, but obviously if you want to be absolutely certain of getting on a flight you will want to buy in advance. However, I believe you are wasting your money if you do...

Lan Chile offers something called the Lan Pass. For $250 you can fly on three one-way trips anywhere in the country. For example, we flew from Santiago to Puerto Montt, Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas and Punta Arenas back to Santiago. You have to purchaser a Lan Pass in the states and you can't find it on Lan's web site -- you have to call them. by the way, lan is a great airline -- good service, on time and lots of decent food. have a great time!

Just a thought! You might consider Tur Bus. We went from Santigo to Pucon round trip for about $60 each. This was the cama premium with would be equal to first class. www.turbus.cl
