AI with great snorkeling

Looking for an AI with great snorkeling. We are couple in our 50's. Don't want a loud, touristy place. Prefer mellow ambiance, on beach. Pvt cottage would be nice, or something like that. No big hi rises. Access to some hiking, rain forest or the like would be nice. Not looking for wild nightlife.
Was thinking of belize but only AI I found you had to take a boat out to reef for good snorkeling and it costs. Plus I've heard the beaches have lots of sea grass so you can't just walk out into the water.
Love love roatan, but no AI that I know of on beach.

Something on lesser known caribbean islands could be good also.
Thanks
