Advice on Cancun?

We are considering spending our vacation in Cancun this year. I am apprehensive because of the spring break repuation of the area. We would be visiting in May, and plan on staying at the Le Meriden. We are attracted to the area because of the reasonable prices for a five star hotel and good diving. The last two years we have spent in Grand Cayman, but would like to try some place new. Are we going to be disappointed with this area? Or is still beautiful without the spring break crowds? Is it still busy in May? Any advice would be appreciated.

Chris, we were in Cancun in May of this year. Trust me, there will be lots of people. It was our third trip there. We prefer to go there after spring break . We stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa. A very nice hotel. We never go all-inclusive because you can get some great meals on the island. Ask the hotel staff and they will gladly point you in the direction of good places to eat. You really don't need to rent a car in Cancun because the bus system is fantastic. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus. If you are adventurous, then I'm sure that you'll like Cancun. Another thing that I like about Cancun is that the night clubs stay open very late and since I'm a night person, this is just great for me. Oh one other thing, the water in May is a little rough but don't let that deter you. I think you'll have a great time.

We bought a membership from Palace Resorts while in Cancun in October,we found the place to be very romantic and peaceful. My understanding that spring break is a Zoo, wall to wall and shoulder to shoulder people. We plan to visit each Oct/Nov for several years to come

Chris, We also have vacationed in Grand Cayman at the Westin. We have stayed there 5 times. We have stayed a the Ritz in Cancun once. Cancun is Definitey busier. The beach is great at both places. The beach is calm in the Caymans and surfy in Cancun. Overall, the Cayman Islands is quieter and classier. The Ritz is very classy though, and Lorizonio's and the Camino Real have resturants on the water like the Caymans. I like both places! The Le Meriden is in a good location right next to the Ritz. I think you will like it.

If you want to dive you should consider Cozumel. They also have up scale hotels. <BR>If you want to enjoy the Carribean beach in CAncun than stay on the Isla Mujeres bay side of the hotel zone which has great beaches and calm waters. The Presidente would be a good choice in this area--upscale and a great reputation.
