Advice for Cancun - Cozumel snorkelling trip
Has anyone used the website cancun_discounts.com recently to book the 11 hour snorkelling excursion from Cancun to Cozumel? Was the boat in good condition? Please give me your impressions and advice - we are leaving for Cancun in two weeks and want to make sure we will not be diappointed or ripped-off if we book this trip before we leave Canada.

I have spent a lot of time in the Riviera Maya area at different resorts, both in Canun and further south, and I own a condo in Playa del Carmen.
I really don't think you need to book this trip before you leave Canada. There are a lot of different snorkeling trips offered from Cancun. Look into going on an excursion to Akumal, to snkel with the sea turtles and the fish there, right off of the beach! Personally the 3 times I have snorkeled off of Cozumel since Hurricanie Wilma, which really knocked out the reef there, have been disappointments. But Akumal, whihc I have snorkeled 4 times in the last 10 months, is wonderful snorkeling.
11 hrs?? Do you REALLY want to be gone and in a boat for so long? Seasickness is a real possibility on those long trips in that area on smaller boats. I went on such a trip last June and half the people on the boat tossed their cookies over the side of the boat. Akumal is about1.5 hrs south of Cancun by collective. There is a dive shop there that rents snorkel equipment. You get the equipment (and they will make sure you understand how to use it and are comfortable, it isn't hard) and then you walk out on the beach and walk into the water. And snorkel w/huge beautiful sea turtles. reef over by the boas is bvery good for fish, we have seen many different species of colorful ones and also barracuda there. and there is a nice restaurant on the beach, right there.
There will be excursions to Akumal if you feel you ned a tour. Look into it.

Colectivo - will leave you at the highway entrance to Akumal and you can walk in from there if you choose. 5 min walk.
If you take the colectivo from Cancun you may have to change in Playa del Carmen for the route that heads south(not sure about that).
Please be respectful and do not touch the turtles. There is a big fine if you do so (as there should be). Lots of people there over the holidays. Not too many turtles but some beautiful rays.
