Advice for 2 days in Mexico City
My husband and I will be visiting Mexico City for 2 days over the Labor Day weekend. This will be our first trip to the DF and we will likely be staying in Polanco or La Condesa. We are an active couple in our upper 30's and are looking for a "greatest hits" of Mexico City for this short trip. We realize won't come close to scratching the surface of Mexico City but want to enjoy what we see. As always any advice is appreciated.

If you stay in Condesa, then it's walkable to Chapultepec. Maxmillian's castle I would say is a must, great view. I too was thinking about the Anthro museum. The place covers almost 20 acres and you'd probably need to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours. I think real pre-Columbian history buffs could easily pass all day there. Stew, how much time did you spend? I have to admit I started getting antsy before we saw it all.
Centro historico is a must. Bellas Artes, post office, Sanborn's in the Tile House, Templo Mayor as mentioned, National Palace, and just exploring and eating.
Condesa/Roma offers a great area to unwind after a day of sightseeing.

I should add that if your Labor Day weekend visit includes a Monday, museums are closed.
Teotihuacan is a must see for many, but you may not have enough time? This I thought was a helpful link:

Thanks for the replies thus far and especially good to know that the museums will be closed on Monday! I'm doing a long weekend in the area with 2 nights at La Villa Bonita Cooking School in Tepoztlan and tacked on 2 days to get a taste of Mexico City. Baldone, its funny you posted that link, I'm a travel blogger(though this is my first time to Mexico) and I'm actually friends with the blogger you posted!

I agree with Stewbear as what I'd call top sights. Another thing I really enjoyed was getting outside the city into the subburb Coyoacan and visiting the homes of Frido Kahlo and Trotsy. It was also nice to get away from the big city in terms of pollution.
You can get there by metro, I think the closest metro stop is a bit aways from it, but walkable. I used the Turibus that one day and enjoyed the bus ride, and it goes about right to it, and the central square in Coyoacan. Her house is also closed Mondays, as is Trotsky's.

For other museums in the CF, I enjoyed the Franz Meyer (also closed Mon), but I always like decorative arts museums.
