5 day anniversary getaway in early March: ideas?

My husband and I are celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary by going away without our two kids! We'll be flying out of South Florida because we're leaving them with their grandparents. Our plan is to go somewhere from Mon-Friday in either the first or 2nd week in March.

We aren't sit at the beach all day kind of people. We like to relax but need activities. We aren't fans of all inclusives. We have been to Playa del Carmen, Mexico but no where else in Central America.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Venezuela. Angel Falls & Canaima Natl. Park, Margarita Island, Gran Sabana, Los Llanos, and the Andes in Merida. Too much stuff to do/see to put links. Short flight from S Florida. Don't limit yourself to Puerto Vallarta and the typical Yucatan vacations.

More interested in contemporary cultures, ruins, beaches, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, wildlife, caving...?? Let us know a bit more about your interests, timing of the trip, and general budget and we'll be able to help you more.

The Arenal area in Costa Rica is awesome. There's an active volcano that's fun to watch, and you can hike the Hanging Bridges, see wildlife like monkeys and sloths at Cano Negro, hike to the bottom of a gorgeous waterfall and swim there, enjoy the natural hot springs like Tabacon and Eco Termales, and maybe zipline at Sky Trek or go whitewater rafting with Rios Tropicales. The Lost Iguana is a great place to stay, but there are a lot of good choices. You won't run out of things to do. If you just want to relax on your balcony and watch the volcano, you can do that too.

5 days is an awfully short trip to go too far. I wouldn't rule out some of the Mexico resort cities... yes even Puerto Vallarta (which personally I love)!

Seems like one of the Caribbean islands would be even bettter for what your situtation though.
