Why does it take so dang long for Fodor's pages to load? This has been going on forever - is there something I can do on my end? It's gotten to the point that I'm about to lose interest altogether.
Why so slow?

I rarely post or read these forums anymore because they are SO slow to load and crash all the time. Its frustrating to type a thoughtful reply only to have the web site crash when I try to post it.
I give up!!!
I'm sorry to hear you are having problems loading pages on Fodors.com. Does the problem appear to to be just within the Forums and is it when you are trying to read a topic or when you are trying to post/comment?
While the internet does occasionally slowness, it sounds like you might be experiencing a persistant slowness with the site. Are you seeing any errors in your browser when the site is slow?
Thanks for alerting us, and I will continue to look into the issue.
Bryan - The site seemed especially slow yesterday for some reason. The forums would come up fine but threads were very slow to load. I tried everything - refresh, click again, move on and come back. I used to think it was because of a thread's length. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Some very long threads loaded pretty quickly and some shorter ones just wouldn't open in any sort of reasonable time. This happened a few days ago too but I don't remember exactly when.
But today I haven't had the same problems at all.
I'm on a mac w/ firefox if it matters.
BTW - I haven't ever had the site crash (except the times you've acknowledged the site was down). It is mainly the slowness which doesn't seem to follow a pattern I can identify.
In my case it just takes forever to move from page to page on the forums site. I'll click on a thread, then wait, and wait, and wait. Or I'll post on a thread, then wait, and wait and wait for it to go through. Or I'll try to switch forums, and wait.... you get the gist. It's maddening. It's not a problem with my Internet because other sites are working fine.
I haven't had any crashing problems.
Thank you both for the feedback. I'm releasing a change today. Fingers crossed. But I'll continue to monitor.
Update: Pretty much all day today (I mean jan 4 . . I'm on the west coast) the site has worked great. But sometime around 9:00 PM PST it slowed way down again.
Just one example - I tried opening the >>Planning a trip to West Coast, Memphis, East Coast<< thread on the US board. I had opened it successfully earlier in the evening, but just before posting this (so around 00:15 - 00:20 your time) it simply would not open. Tried 5 or 6 times and just got the >>waiting for . . . <<
Same on a few other threads/forums - while some opened semi-quickly
Thought maybe w/ the time /specific thread maybe you have some sort of tech logs that might show something????

It is ridiculously slow this afternoon - so slow on some threads that my browser is timing out. It's been slow all year... I though it might be my computer, but both my PC with Firefox and my iPad with Safari are having the same problem.
I posted on this yesterday (and have gotten no response. I am on a mac with safari and most, but not all, threads open VERY slowly. Same probelm on my iPad. What can be done to fix this????
Thanks for the posts. I'm looking at the logs, but am not seeing any issues with any specific times of the day.
It sounds like those of you experiencing slowness, are having the problem regardless of what browser or type of computer you are using. I'm trying to identify possible issues. Any specific details, such as browser errors or timeout messages are appreciated.
I get no timeout messages or browser errors. It just takes several minutes for a thread to load.
No timeout messages here either. I'm in Australia, so usually online at different times than folks in the US, but haven't noticed any specific times of day that are worse than others. It seeems to have gotten better over the past few days for me, will keep you posted. I'm using Internet Explorer.
I find the forums are slow in adding my postings to any thread. It used to be almost instant, but now maybe more than 10 secs.
That last one took 17 secs.
