New Fodors VBulletin forum coming soon -- discuss!

Jump to last reply

Hi all,

Per my announcement, please feel free to discuss the coming VBulletin forum. When our staff returns from the Memorial Day holiday, we will be able to reply with any additional info we have.

The name of the new software is called VBulletin, and it is owned by Internet Brands, the same company that now owns Fodors. This means we have on-site experts and don't need to rely on a 3rd party company for technical help.

We currently run over 20 Vbulletin-based forums, just in the Travel sector alone. One of the biggest is If you want to start to get an idea of what the forum will generally look like when the migration happens, go check it out. CAVEAT: the Fodors VB forum has been custom designed and will look (in my opinion) better and more modern than FlyerTalk. They will be jealous when they see Fodors ;)

A smattering of new stuff you'll see at the new Fodors forum:

* Private Messaging -- you will be able to message and be messaged by other Fodors forum members!
* Subscribe to, and bookmark, your favorite forums, subforums and threads!
* User-customizable site and email alerts when your favorite forums and threads have new posts in them!
* Improved Search!
* Easily create subforums to help organize all the great travel threads on Fodors forums!
* Better anti-spam protections!
* Faster site speed!
* Longtime forums bugs will simply disappear as the new software is implemented!
* User-editable Wikiposts (coming shortly after the new software) that can serve as a place for a knowledge drop or to organize dynamic events, or anything else that the community needs them for (this feature is proprietary to Internet Brands and only our forums have it)!

This is just the top-level stuff. There is so much more!

We don't want anyone to be overwhelmed, so we will be making sure the moderator staff is well versed on how the new forum works before we flip the switch. And of course I and the internal IB staff are already VB experts. Question and answer threads will be up and running from Day One, and we'll even post some basics on how to do things like navigate around, make posts, make new threads, etc.

WHEN will it happen? We don't have an exact date, but it will be in June 2017. Think: about 3 weeks from now.

We are SO EXCITED to share all the new features of the VB forums with the Fodors community, and we hope you're excited too.

Enjoy your weekend!
