Zurich to Venice in 4 days - suggestions?

Jump to last reply

We are a 45 year old couple flying to Zurich from LAX and arriving around 8:30AM on a Monday in late August. We then have four nights to get to Venice for a cruise that leaves at 10PM Friday night. That gives us 3 full days and the better part of the first and last day. We will also have a day and night post-cruise in Venice.

We are looking to take a scenic trip from Zurich to Venice with one or two stops along the way. Will probably spend three nights in transit and one in Venice (since we'll have another day in Venice post-cruise too).

Looking at these ideas, please let me know if any of these sound like a good plan (note that jet lag has never been a problem with us so that is not really a concern.):

1) Easiest? - Train to Lucerne after arrival on Monday morning with one or two nights there and then train or boat/train to Venice with perhaps another overnight or two somewhere along the way (Lugano, Lake Como, Milan, Verona, etc.)

2) Slightly longer trip - Train to Interlaken or Lauterbrunnen after arrival Monday, spend two or three nights in that area, then train to Venice with possible stop along the way. Is there a recommended scenic train route if we were to do this?

3) Most scenic?- Train to Chur or St. Moritz after arrival Monday (or other town where we can pick up the Bernina express), spend the night, then take the Bernina express (or regular Bernina train) Tuesday to a town on Lake Como (or Lugano). Spend a two nights at the lake then on to Venice.

3) Less expensive? - Train to Innsbruck for a couple nights and then train to Venice with maybe a stop along the way (Verona?)

Any other suggestions are appreciated too!
