"Downtown" is $5 and 10 minutes by train from the airport. 20 minutes (or less) for as much as $40 by taxi.

It's certainly one of our favorite cities. Lots to do, depending on your interests. Good food. Great shopping. A few interesting sights. Good museums. Fine lake and lake front. Marvelous wooded hill and ridge for skyline gazing or easy hiking. Interesting and scenic excursions by train or boat. Some of these depend on the time of year you'll be there, of course.

A rundown on many of these things at
www.twenj.com/swisszrhoneday.htm

Suggestions on where to stay? If you want the really great hotels as you mention then you'll want to stay at the Baur-au-Lac or the Dolder Grand, two fo the finer hotels in the world. These and other recommendations at
www.twenj.com/swisshtlzrh.htm

Good afternoon, Peter
Might take the train from Kloten to the
HB, main Zurich station, and there is
the Zurich Tourist Office where you can
get map and suggestions of what to visit, might consider a city tour to give
you some of the best spots, and then
give you the rest of the day to eexp;lore on your own. One place that
does need exploration is the Bahnhofstrasse, the main street with shopping and ristorantes which leads
from the BH to the Burkliplatz from
where the Lake Zurich boats dock.
My suggestion of where to stay would
be a little three star hotel with 21 rooms, the HAUS ZUM KINDLI, Pfalzgasse, 1,
see [email protected]...
about five mins taxi from the HB...
Ristorantes off the Bahnoff would
suggest, the Bierhalle Kropf, Im Gassen, 16,
Ristorante Bindella, Honggerstrasse, 115
just east of the Paradeplatz..
Don't miss Sprugli in the Paradeplatz..
Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..
Peter, take a relaxing and very scenic cruise for an hour or so on the lake. Take a tram up to the mountains.
Try raclette in a specialty cafe - yummy; melted cheese on new potatoes and served with sour pickles (or other sides). Have a wonderful trip.

Peter hello!
Nothing to add to the above posts and I am a Zurich resident. I love the lake as well. So relaxing after work or when jet-lagged.

Regarding great hotels.. well, there are some indeed. What's your budget?
If I wanted to splurge, it would be either the Widder Hotel*****, small boutique hotel
www.widderhotel.ch
or the "Hotel zum Storchen"****
www.storchen.ch

If you like art, don't miss the Museum of Fine Arts and the Chagall windows at Fraumünster Church.

If you like chocolates, don't miss "Teuscher" at Bahnhofstrasse and In Gassen. Much better than "Sprüngli".

For shopping, don't miss the small streets off Bahnhofstrasse, such as Rennweg, Kuttelgasse, Augustinergasse, Storchengasse, In Gassen, etc. Bahnhofstrasse has shops and stores just like in any bigger city. Well known department stores just like almost all famous fashion designers like Hermès, Gucci, Chanel, Vuitton and alike. But still, it's a nice street without traffic and a lot of trees and benches.

Yes, raclette, is my favourite too, Cherly. But rather with cold weather.

For any info about Zurich, check the official web page at:
www.zurichtourism.ch
